| 内容記述 | 村上春樹は二〇二三年、三部構成の長篇小説『街とその不確かな壁』を発表した。その第二部には、ある町の図書館長の職に就いた語り手「私」の良き相談相手として、「子易さん」というキャラクターが登場する。注目すべきは、彼がすでに肉体を失った「幽霊」であると設定されていることである。子易さんが現実と非現実の二つの世界の境界に位置する存在であり、作品構成上重要な役割を担っていることは、複数の論者によって指摘されているが、本作で彼が「幽霊」として設定されたことによって生じる効果や、その背景にあった作者の意図については、未だ十分に論じられていない。そこで本稿では、本作における子易さんという「幽霊」の表象を精査し、その造形や特徴が、ガブリエル・ガルシア＝マルケス『コレラの時代の愛』（一九八五）に描出された、「亡霊」としてではなく生身の人間のように姿を現し生者を励ます存在としての死者のあり方から大きな影響を受けている可能性を指摘する。さらにその考察を足がかりとし、このような「幽霊」の表象を通して村上が提示した死生観を浮かび上がらせるとともに、彼の過去作である「街と、その不確かな壁」（一九八〇）および『世界の終りとハードボイルド・ワンダーランド』（一九八五）のリライト作品として本作が世に問われた意義を、COVID －19 パンデミックという同時代的な社会状況との連関を踏まえながら明らかにしていく。 | |||||||||||

| 内容記述 | Haruki Murakami’s latest novel, The City and Its Uncertain Walls (2023), consists of three parts. In the second part, a character named Koyasu-san appears as a good adviser to the narrator. The notable point is that Koyasu-san is described as a “ghost.” Although several previous studies have pointed out that he is located on the border between the two worlds of reality and unreality and plays an important role in the work, the effects of such a setting and the author’s intentions behind it have not been sufficiently discussed. This paper scrutinizes the image of the “ghost” and reveals that it was heavily influenced by in Gabriel García Marquez’s Love in the Time of Cholera (1985), which includes the description of the dead that seems to be alive and gives encouragement to the living. From these results, this paper also shows Murakami’s view of life and death presented in this work and its relationship with his past works—The City and Its Uncertain Walls (1980) and Hard-Boiled Wonderland and The End of the World (1985)—and the COVID－19 pandemic as a contemporary social issue. | |||||||||||
