For European poets of middleages and New time the brevity of human life and the inevitability of death were the permanent source of bitter contemplations and pathetic lamentations. This world in their eyes was a sorrowful battlefield where Good was always fighting Evel and Death was challenging Life. Western mind reflected in poetry is seeking salvation in this struggle, convicting the realm of Evel and glorifying the realm of God, Love, Life. This poetry is dramatic in its essence from the beginning to the end. In the non-dual mind of a Japanese poet (here we take for example only the poets of \"Kokinshu\" anthology) this world is full of bitterness and joy in the meantime. Good and Evel pereceived as the proper nature of life are inseparable. Western poetry can be designated as a search for truth of lonely restless and rebellious souls while Japanese poetry is only a search for harmony. Heian poets were ready to accept both Good and Evel caring only about how to express the sweet melancholy of \"mono no aware\", the spirit of this transient existence. We can barely find any historic elements in waka poetry without special commentary. Japanese poets prefer watching the changes of four seasons implying in these everlasting images everlasting human feelings and avoiding dramatic collisions. Traditon always predominates over individuality, and the poems are to be evaluated mostly from this standpoint taking into consideration all the conventional rules. That is why almost all the anthologies of waka except some family collections are compiled without any visual respect to individual talents whose works are dispersed instead of being united in blocks as they do in the West. Not the names but the poems themselves are of major value to the compiler as the continuation of tradition in this world of \"mujokan\". Unlike their Western counterparts the hearts of Japanese poets are open to the past, not to the future. They follow the path of their predecessors having inherited their soul.
