This is not, however, so much a film simply based on the true story as the one influenced by many books which have already been written about the case. In fact, Komatsugawa incident committed by Lee Chin U who was a Korean immigrant in Japan was the key to realizing Koreans living in Japan as an outsider. For example, such works as Kenran no Isu by Fukazawa Shichirô in Showa 34 (1959), Sakebigoe by Ôe Kenzaburô in Showa 37 (1962), Kuchibue ha Fuyu no Sora ni by Kinoshita Junji, Tanin no Chi by Shirasaka Yoshio and the criticism by Ôoka Shôhei, Kim Dal Su and Akiyama Shun apply in this case. While these works had been discussed under the view of “the crime and the literature” or of “the criticism against the justice system”, I would like to consider how immigrant Koreans in Japan are described referring to the relations of print media, novels and films about the case then. The main point is to observe how the description of Koreans in Japan in those three categorized areas are translated across the borders. In the modern society, the common ground has been developed between the literature and the films to share the possibility of describing the reality across the borders of verbal and visual expression.
