Gayû literally means going to a distant place without moving at all. Meisho zue were edited in such a way that readers could use them as topographical guidebooks, but they were also made for amusing reading.\nThis presentation takes up several examples from meisho zue in order to ask how perspective was used by the editors to facilitate an experience of gayû, and, moreover, how such perspective was established in the text.
