Relevant literary values are attached to the refined “anti-secularity”,( 狂, c. kuang, j. kyō) behavior and, therefore, lots of figures of “anti-secular monks” are depicted in monk biographies like the Biography of Eminent Monks and the Further Biography of Eminent Monks. It is interesting that the Kaifuso under the influence of the poetry in Six Dynasties and the Early Tang Dynasty quoted quite a number of stock expressions about “antisecularity” in monk biographies and poems. After that, anti-secular figures frequently appeared in biographies of people who attained birth in the Pure Land and Buddhist Tales, forming a literary family or series. The relationship between monk biographies in the Kaifuso and the biographies of eminent monks in China has been explored and expounded, yet further research has to be done over the role of the biographies of eminent monks in China in the localization of Japanese monk biographical literature and the impact on unique Japanese hermit image formation. The present research, centered on “anti-secular monks”, aims to elaborate relation between the biographies of Chinese eminent monks, the Japanese monk biographical literature, biographies of people who attained birth in the Pure Land and Buddhist Tales. Firstly, the concept of “anti-secularity” and the types and features of “anti-secularity monks” have to be defined; secondly, the relevance has to be examined about the “anti-secular monks” in Chinese literature and other literary works like hermit biographies and A New Account of the Tales of the World and, finally, the interaction between Japanese monk biographical literature and biographies of Chinese senior monks and their influence upon each other. The present research makes an analysis of the mutual impact of literary forms of biographies of Chinese eminent monks and medieval Japanese Buddhist tales upon each other from the perspective of absorption of foreign culture, aiming to investigate the continuity of the stock expressions of “antisecular monks” in Japanese monk biographies, Buddhist tales, and further probe into the influence of biographies of Chinese eminent monks upon the formation of medieval Japanese hermit images.}, pages = {126--109}, publisher = {国文学研究資料館}, title = {研究発表 中日僧伝文学に表れた「狂僧」に関する一考察}, year = {2017}, yomi = {デン, ウンメイ} }
