室町物語『御曹子島渡り』もまた、不可思議な異国・異境を語る代表的な作品のひとつである。伝本は比較的少ないが、いけのや文庫に所蔵される大型絵巻は三巻から成る貴重な一本である。二〇一七年八月、国文学研究資料館の国際共同研究「境界をめぐる文学―知のプラットフォーム構築をめざして―」により、その全文画像を当館ウェブサイトから公開することを得た。
本稿ではその簡略な紹介を兼ねて、江戸時代前期の奈良絵本特有の絵画表現について検証するとともに、明代日用類書の本文表記の「揺れ」が新たな説話を生成する可能性を考えてみたい。

Popular encyclopedias published in quick succession within China throughout the Mind dynasty served as the literary basis of such Japanese vernacular tales as Ikoku monogatari, as well as a number of illustrated books (Nara ehon), such as Sankai ibutsu. These encyclopedias have exerted significant influence over expressions of the otherworldly as seen in early modern Japanese literature.
Onzōshi shimawatari is a popular vernacular tale that, like those just mentioned, is a representative example of how Japanese writers sought to depict the strange and the otherworldly. There are few extant manuscripts of this tale. The Ikenoya Library contains a large-sized manuscript consisting of three fascicles that is of great importance and value. On August, 2017, digital images of this entire manuscript were made publically available through the NILJ website as part of the international collaborative research project entitled “Borders and Japanese Literature: Constructing a Platform of Knowledge.”
This article seeks to provide a concise introduction to the Ikenoya Library manuscript of Onzōshi shimawatari, as well as provide an examination of the salient features of artistic expression found in early Edo-period illustrated books. Furthermore, I will consider examples in which the adoption and transformation by Japanese writers of certain passages found in Ming-period encyclopedias led to the creation of new and original popular vernacular tales.},
