Katô creates for his readers a main protagonist (Iso no kami no Fumimaro) who actually experiences a love affair with Kaguyahime and who authors the famous tale as a paeanto this love.\nReliving Fumimaro's experience is the experience of the play. Kato's attempt to recast a masterpiece of classical narrative into a dramatic format, however, poses two interesting questions: how did the writer reconcile the stylistic transfer from one genre to another, and what happens in the process of reviving and popularizing an ancient work for modern audiences?
