 note = {pdf, 本稿は、日本近世の文書管理史や由緒論と言われている研究潮流も含めて、過去情報に関わる様々な現象を、「記憶」をキーワードに、より広範な文脈のなかに位置づけるための基礎的な事例研究の一つである。対象は近江八幡町である。近江八幡町は、江戸時代を通じて、戦国末期から近世初期にかけて授与された織田信長や徳川家康の朱印状を、他の文書と区別される特別な保管体制に置いていた。そして、これらを「諸役免除」という「特権」の根拠としていた。しかし、信長朱印状は先行都市安土に授与されたものであり、家康朱印状には諸役免除が記されていなかった。このため、八幡町はその時期に応じて様々な内容の短い由緒書を叙述した、つまり様々な過去を創造することになった。また、創造された過去をより強化するために、1721年に「八幡町記録帳」という文書集を編集した。この文書集は、項目を立てて分類編集されており、その時期の在地社会の過去情報蓄積形態としては洗練された形式を備えていた。このため、過去の描写内容は微妙に揺れ動くものの、その後幕末に至るまで、文書集という形式が踏襲された。また、ここでの編集の対象は原文書だけではなく短い叙述（由緒書）も含まれていた。以上のように、本稿では、過去情報蓄積形態の三つの局面、原文書保管、筆写分類編集、叙述、のうち、編集と叙述の関係について主として分析した。

This essay is a fundamental case study on various phenomena about information of the past. The aim is to position there cord keeping history as broader context from the view point of memory. This case is Omi-hachiman that is a local commercial town in early modern Japan. This towns men had kept a kind of royal charters in the special system distinguished other records. They were seemed to the evidence for their privilege of demission of labor. But their charters were not direct evidence. And so their towns men invented various memories to meet the needs of various cases. Moreover for the purpose of enforcing memory, they compiled the collection book of original documents in l721. This book has subject classification. I estimate this style as excellent in the first half of 18th century local era. And so they did not write along historical narrative, and followed the style of compilation until the end of early modern (1868). They compiled not only original documents but also short narratives. As above, I examined the relationship between compilation and narrative among three aspect of the form for accumulation of past information; record keeping, compilation, and narrative.},
