Many times it has been pointed out that Natsume Soseki's works are related to the thoughts of Lao-tzŭ and Chuang-tzŭ. In my analysis of "motion" and "stillness "seen in the works of Natsume Soseki, the traces of Chu-tzŭ' doctines could be followed. They appear as expressions that directly make use of "motion" and "stillness" in his novels as well as in his "fragments" and "diaries". And this pair of ideas, in some cases, is part of the heroes' or heroines' thought. In the Third chapther of my paper I presented many examples of this pair of ideas that emerge in Soseki 's works. In conclusion ,"motion" and "stillness", the important pair of ideas in the doctrines of Chu-tzŭ, can be found in Soseki's thought.
