内容記述 | The poetry of Kenreimon-in Ukyō no Daibu (c.1155-c. 1233) is remarkable in the so little of it seems to fit the dominant styles of her age, styles that may be collectively called the Shinkokin style. Much of her poetry, and usually her best, seems closer to styles that are typical of the fourteenth century anthologies, the Gyokuyōshū and Fūgashū. It thus appears that she may be something of a pioneer in poetic development, perhaps introducing new styles over a hundred years before they became common and showing the way in which poetic style was to change. However, a search through the poetry of some of her famous contemporaries reveals that they too on occasion wrote poems that fit well with the Gyokuyō-Fūga style; and one is led to conclude that many aspects of the “new style“ were well established in the age of the Shin-kokinshū, and suggestions of it may be found even earlier. It is true of most styles of Japanese court poetry that they were practised by many poets long before they became the norms of an age. Sometimes such poets were innovators, sometimes they were experimenting with new styles that they could not be said to have introduced. Ukyō no Daibu can hardly be called innovative, for she did not originate the styles she used. However, she does use expressions rarely or never found in previous poetry; her poems contain a relatively large proportion that are close to the Gyokuyō-Fūga style; and she does show a predilection for that style, while her contemporaries on the whole do not. It seems reasonable to consider her at least a precursor of the later Kyōgoku-Reizei poets. |
