| 内容記述 | The scholars of the history of Japanese literature have long ignored the literature Japanese people produced upon the foreign climate. Taiwan owes much of its literary heritage to the Japanese men of letters who did wonderful jobs while it was under Japanese rule. Mitsuru Nishikawa was one of them. He lived in Taiwan for a long time , loving it as his spiritual home. He published various periodicals , and wrote poems, fairy tales, novels and reviews, contributing very much to the birth and growth of Taiwan literary circles. Although he was in conformity with the national policy of Japan during World War II, I think his contribution to Taiwan literature should be justly evaluated. I would like to point out the following as his greatest achievements: 1) He made Taiwanese realize the existence of Taiwan literature. 2) He succeeded in sublimating Taiwan folklore to pure literature. 3) He trained Taiwan men of letters. 4) He opened up a new field of literature called “Japanese oyerseas literature”. I think that it is the duty of the scholars who study Japan to discover and evaluate the literary achievements of Japanese who worked overseas and that it is necessary to make Japanese literature more international. |
