| 内容記述 | Ugetsu Monogatari and Harusame Monogatari are Ueda Akinari’s representative works. Though Harusame was written after an interval of more than thirty years, it lies on the same plane as the Ugetsu in his thought and attitude. Even so, there is a drastic difference between the two in the creativity of the works. The creative quality of Akinari’s works consists in his burning passion. Akinari transmitted to his readers the strong feeling he had towards his materials. Hence the beauty we find in Ugetsu.But there is very little passion, if any, in Harusame. Here lies the basic difference. Though there was no change in Akinari’s creative power, there was a stagnation of his power to concentrate his passions on his creative work. In Harusame his consciousness wanders about, and there is mere enumeration and repetition of matters which seem irrelevant to each other, and there is no unity. Akinari attempted to cover these defects by pursuing one line of his thought or belief. But the result was a failure. This does not mean that Akinari’s sensibility collapsed, but simply that it had stagnated. Harusame was written just as he was suffering from the stagnation of his creative power. |
