| 内容記述 | The aesthetic of fūryū (elegance) can be read as fūryū and have the meaning of "decorative". The basis for this aesthetic concept is mitate, the technique of allusion through symbolism. For example, when a performer turns his fan horizontal and sets a saké cup on it, the cup becomes (mitate) the moon and the fan, floating clouds. This convention is different from the western aesthetic of symbolism or abstraction, and is perhaps peculiar to Japan. This concept of mitate which lies at the foundation of literature, drama and pictorial arts, can be considered a basic element of Japanese aesthetics. |
