| 内容記述 | There are many different readings of Kitamura Tôkoku's re presentative work, Hôraikyoku, a great many of which are highly suggestive. Based on previous research, this article will examine a topic which has not yet been seriously considered, that of the "demon." It will discuss the birth of the "demon" in method and thought, its important role in the structure and development of the work, and in addition the meaning of the work and its significance in Tôkoku from his contradictory position with respect to the "demon." 1. Concerning the birth of "the demon within." I will consider the troop of demons which operates at the center of Hôraikyoku to be an image of "internal war" or a basic sign describing the author's thought and deal in particular with the following two problems. First, is "internal war" this work's nucleus? I will analyze the battle of ideas between "external demons" and "internal demons." Second, I will consider the cognitive value of the discovery of this kind of "internal war" in the 1890's. 2. Concerning the appearance of the equation "other-world demon" equals "The Great Devil King. In Hôraikyoku it seems that "demons" were not merely placed on the side of a thought-cognition object. "Demons"were heavily aimed at the side of a theoretical device which became the framework of thought description and also became the very operating device of the stage structure. In other words, I think that in addition to the "demons" of the cognitive dimension another "demon" also appeared. It is named "The Great Devil King" and is an "other-world demon" who is also addressed as the boss of the "demons." "The Great Devil King" is given the role of controlling the entire work. I will also touch on matters of the influence on "The Demon of Oeyama" in traditional drama on this work and its connection to the critical essay. "Views of the Other-World" and analyze the meaning of Tôkoku's new literary conception in the origin of "The Great Devil King" and as embodied in "The Great Devil King." |
