内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 Interest in how Mori Ogai combined classical Chinese literature and modern philosophy and reflected this in his creations was the starting point for this research.
References to Chinese Ming-Ching novels appear in the strongly autobiographical work Eta Sexualis (Subaru Vol. 7, Sept. 1907), specifically regarding the romance Joushi (also known as Joushi Ruiryaku). Throughout the copy of Joushi in the Ogai archives kept at the University of Tokyo library are encircled and underlined passages, as well as occasional notes written by Ogai. One wonders how these markings and Ogai’s works are related. Joushi is a collection of stories deeply connected to Ogai. “Shousei Den” refered to in Gan (Momiyama Shoten, May 1915) can be found in volume 14 (Joukyuu-rui). Also, the story of Gyo Genki, which Ogai transformed into a historical novel of the same name (Chuuou Kouron Vol.30 Isssue 8, July 1915), originally found in Sansui Shoutoku can also be found in volume 18 (Jourui Rui) of Joushi. There are 24 volumes in Joushi, making it meaningful to shed light on this collection in order to understand in what way Ogai was interested in it. Joushi contains many stories of the “brilliant and beautiful person” ( Saishi kajin). However, these tales of “brilliant and beautiful people” have their own special traits, which have been largely misunderstood by previous research. In particular, there is a tendency to view “beautiful” as merely indicating physical attributes. This presentation will seek to clarify the issue.
The presenter has already analyzed the connection between these “tales of brilliant and beautiful people” and Gyo Genki. Here, examination will be expanded to Maihime (Kokumin no Tomo Vol.6 Issue 69, January 1890), Utakata no Ki (Shigarami Soushi, Vol. I I, August 1890), and Gan, in relation to Ogai's annotation to Joushi and his early philosophy of writing. From this, we will look into what meaning Chinese literature had for Ogai.
