内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 The stories, essays and diaries written by female writers began to appear during the period ruled by Emperor Ichijō in the Heian era and it’s quite an unusual case in the history of the world literature (in general, it’s said that the epic literature by women emerged in the latter half of the 19th century).
Ancient China produced a lot of talented women and they left many pieces of poetry, yet their epic literature also appeared in the 19th century for the first time. In Jiangnan, the education became widespread among women, like Guishushi (teachers for women) and the culture created by talented women flourished. However, it is considered that the reason why not poetry but epic work were created is that women were too busy with housework to lead a classic-style emotional life as composing poetry. Generally, it's regarded that such earthiness of author's life is related to the development of autobiographies and diaries by females, but the talented women in Heian Period were liberated from household affairs and in truth they also left a lot of waka poetry. Why did those women who seemed to be leading a classic-style emotional life write a lot of epic work along with waka?
Also, it seems that the birth of the woman’s epic literature in Heian Period was deeply related to the characters they used. In the Korean Peninsula, Hangul Hunminjeongeum was created in the age of Sejong the Great, but it was called as “children’s characters”, “women’s characters” or “characters for slang” and was mainly used by women. In the 18th century, about two hundred years after the creation of Hunminjeongeum, biographies autobiographies written by women were appeared in harems in Korea. It's similar to the epic literature written by women in Heian Period, in the sense that women recorded their own life using the characters for women. However, even though they both used “the characters for women”, the inclinations of their work are probably completely opposite. What is the reason?
In this direction, I want to think about the birth of the epic literature by women in Heian Period from the East Asia standpoint.
