内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 In early modern Japan, horror stories were written in various genres of books. Some of them are stories that had been written in books of horror novels at the beginning of the early modern age, which were adapted to long novels with a strong Buddhist influence and were further handed down in books of moral philosophy.I examine one of those examples.
I will take a motif of “The bottom of kimono taken in the mouth of a dead body, and then, try to figure it out”. As to this, a comparison and analysis has already been made by Kunihiko Tsutsumi between this story and stories of the same type, such as Stories by Sorori (1663) and Shokoku Hyakumonogatari (1677), and it is pointed out that this story was adapted to Sainokawara kugouden (1663). Here, I will take an example of some paragraph of Shujuukokoroegusa and point out the phases and characteristics of the story becoming accepted across genres. Although this book seems to have been written based on Sainokawara kugouden, it is noteworthy that it is categorized under Shingaku. In traditional research, the association between horror and Shingaku has not been scrutinized to full extent. We should also consider this book from the viewpoint of a horror story becoming accepted. I will go over the antecedent research on this book as well. By assuming the flow from a book of horror novels to Buddhist-influenced novels, then to a book of Shingaku, I will review the development of early modern novels. Upon doing so, I will focus on the genres of the books and reflect how a story of the same type evolved. Different genres of books have different themes of stories as well as different mental attitudes towards having a story even among books of the same type. From the standpoint such as described above, I will concretely point out how a story metamorphosed and investigate its meaning.
