| 内容記述 | In this study we will discuss the association of content and quantitative features in the 24 ukiyozōshi¹ of Ihara Saikaku （1642 ‒ 93） who was a fiction writer of the Genroku period （1688 ‒1704） in Japan. Generally, Saikaku’s ukiyozōshi can be divided into four categories: Kōshokumono （romance）, Bukemono （samurai story）, Chōninmono （merchant story） and Zatsuwamono（narrative story）. Even though there are several ways of classification, we adopted Munemasa's classification（1969）. We used Saikaku's database which was developed by the researchers who edited the Shinpen Saikaku Zenshū（ Shinpen Saikaku Zenshū Henshū Inkai, 2000～2007）. Since Japanese sentences are not separated by spaces, spaces were added among the words in all of the sentences. In addition, information was added for the analysis. In this paper, we studied whether there is a connection between the content and the quantitative features in Saikaku's ukiyozōshi using top 25 nouns, verbs and adjectives. Such information can be influenced by content. Consequently, out of the 25 words listed some words were independent. Moreover, we investigated this information using principal component analysis（PCA）. PCA reduces the dimensionality of a data set consisting of a large number of interrelated variables, while retaining as much variation present in the data set as possible（Jolliffe, 2002）. The features of Kōshokumono and Zatsuwamono are related, however the four categories showed a tendency for being located separately. 1. The term ukiyozōshi refers to a vernacular fictional genre that originated in the Kyoto-Osaka area and spanned a 100-year period from the publication in 1682 of Ihara Saikaku's Kōsyoku ichidai otoko （The Life of an Amorous Man） to the late 18th century（Shirane, 2004）. |
