| 内容記述 | 本稿は国文学研究資料館特別コレクション山鹿文庫蔵『武教本論鵜飼註 上中』を翻刻し、解題を附したものである。『武教本論』の原著者山鹿素行は、数々の兵学書を著した思想家として知られるが、素行以降の資料については弟子が編纂した『武教小学』の注釈書紹介にとどまり、山鹿流兵学が後世の大名にも評価された背景を知るには至らない。 『武教本論』は、内容の簡略さ故か素行の著書の中ではさして知られていないが、晩年の素行が弟子との兵学談義に『武教本論』を用いた記録が残されるだけでなく、『武教本論』が『武教要録』の巻末に組み込まれた点からみても、決して看過できるものではない。また、本資料には素行の思想が兵学とともに、日用道徳を重視した「素行学」も継承されていた事実をうかがい知ることができる。兵法論に終始せず、文武兼備の「武教」を説いた『武教本論』がいかに解釈されたのか、『武教本論鵜飼註上中』の翻刻は『武教本論』自体の見直しのみならず、素行が生涯唱え続けた「武教」の展開を検討する契機ともなるだろう。 This article contains both a summary and reproduction of Bukyō honron ugai chū jōchū, work included in the Yamaga Library, which is itself a special collection of the National Institute of Japanese Literature. Yamaga Sokō (1622-1685), author of Bukyō honron (Fundamentals of the Martial Way), is known as an intellectual who published many volumes on the arts of war. Aside from an introductory summary of a certain commentary to Sokō’s Bukyō shōgaku (Elementary Lessons in the Martial Way) compiled by his disciples, research has yet to be done in relation to material compiled after Sokō’s death. Consequently, exactly how the daimyo of later generations came to privilege the military tactics first expounded by Sokō and his followers-the Yamaga school as it is now called-remains a mystery. Bukyō honron, perhaps because of the brevity of its content, has not received as much attention as other, more detailed works by Sokō. We know, however, from extant records, that an aged Sokō used this book as an aid to instructing his pupils in the arts of war. Moreover, that Bukyō honron was included in the final fascicle of Bukyō yōroku (Essential Records of the Martial Way) should alert us to the importance once placed on this work. Aside from instruction in the arts of war, Bukyō honron also contains passages that reflect Sokō’s personal brand of pragmatic ethics. This article, by making the first and second volume of Bukyō honron ugaichū available for a wider readership, hopes to promote research into how exactly Sokō’s Bukyō honron, a book that deals with martial as well as literary arts, was interpreted by later generations. It is hoped, furthermore, that this research will lead to a reconsideration of the development of Sokō’s philosophy of the martial way. |
