内容記述 | Earlier, we worked on expressions of Buddhist poems in Heian and Kamakura eras and the adaptation of Buddhist doctrines to them. In the other hand, we are considering about western translation, transformation and transmission of Heian period literature, culture, mind, ideas, waka poetry and view of the world in it, due to making a Hungarian translation of the Sarashina Diary and classical waka poems. Now, we will introduce an example of western interpretation of Saigyō’s poems and consider about the way and background of that interpretation. This problem relates to the theme of waka poetry and Buddhism and the western interpretation of Japanese classical waka poetry. VILLÁNYI G. András is a contemporaneous Hungarian poet who was researching on Buddhism in Saigyō’s waka poetry when he studied at universities in Japan and England. His work Reflections (Tükröződések. Scolar Press, Budapest, 2011) includes Hungarian translations of Saigyō’s 75 waka poems with VILLÁNYI’s explanation and poems of his own as well as short proses. In VILLÁNYI’s poems or proses added to Saigyō’s waka, some are expressing the frame of mind of a westerner similar to what can be seen in the correspondent Saigyō’s poem, and somes are telling VILLÁNYI’s thought based on the Japanese poet’s waka. By this construction, it appear some common points to Christian and Buddhist mind, making Reflections an interesting work which makes a correspondence of these two minds through literature works. Further, VILLÁNYI’s Hungarian translations of Saigyō’s poems are accurate but in the third line of his representative waka “Negawaku wa hana no shita nite haru shinamu...”, the Hungarian poet translated as “with falling cherry blossoms” so it got to be different from the original mind: dying under the blooming cherry tree like Buddha entered the nirvana under the shala tree. This can be VILLÁNYI’s original image of Saigyō. In this research, we try to identify the characteristic of VILLÁNYI’s interpretation of Saigyō and the Japanese waka poet’s influence over him by VILLÁNYI’s choice of Saigyō’s poems and his own poems and short proses. Then, we will consider the correspondence between Buddhist and Christian, Japanese and western minds. |
