| 内容記述 | 本稿では、一九○七〈明治40〉年一月、雑誌『文藝倶楽部』に掲載された泉鏡花「霊象」を論じた。従来、ほとんど検討対象として採り上げられなかった小説であるが、鏡花が小説に導入した象の形象を、謡曲「江口」の引用と、南洋への異国情緒趣味の結合として捉え直そうと試みた。また小説世界の論理が、「群盲象を撫でる」という慣用句に基づく三題噺として構想されていることを指摘しつつ、「群衆」に対する鏡花の嫌悪のなかに、小説「霊象」の同時代性を確認した。なお「霊象」については、正宗白鳥による間接的な証言ながら、島村抱月による称賛が伝えられており、この時期の抱月の周辺についても検討することで、「ロマンテイツク」の文学を積極的に推進していく、自然主義文学路線への転換以前の抱月の姿を見出し、白鳥による証言が正確であった可能性が高いことを確認した。 In this paper, the ”Reizo”（霊象） written by Izumi Kyoka published in the magazine ”Bungei club”（文藝倶楽部）was discussed. Conventionally, the novel which was hardly taken up as an examination object. However I tried again to regard the shape of an elephant which was introduced in Kyoka’s novel as a quotaion from a Yo-kyoku ”Eguchi”（江口） and as a binding exoticism to the South Sea Islands. While pointing out an ethic in world of novel is formulated as Sandaibanashi (one form of Rakugo) based on an idiom－The mediocre have no right to criticize the great－, it was confirmed that there was the contemporaneity in the novel named ”Reizo” in his dislike of ”Gunshu”. As for Reizo, it is said that Shimamura Hogetsu praised it, according to an indirect testimony by Masamune Hakucho. To examine around Hougetsu at that time, his true picture before naturalism that actively promoting “Romantic” literature was found, then it was confirmed that testimony by Hakucho was more likely to be accurate. |
