| 内容記述 | The aim of this paper is to trace the development of scholarship in the English-speaking world on the study of and translation activities regarding the works of Ishikawa Takuboku from the 1930s to the present-day. This is proceeded through the examination of English translations of Takuboku’s various genres, particularly his most well-known tanka collections since Sakanishi Shio’s pioneering work A Handful of Sand (1934) to Goldstein and Shinoda’Sad Toys (1977), followed by an analysis of post-war studies by scholars representing a wide spectrum of approaches and various shades of problem consciousness while at the same time sharing a common interest in the works and experience of Takuboku. This includes works by literary historians, intellectual historians, political scientists and anthologists examining Takuboku in the literary as well as in the intellectual and social context of his time. Divided into five sections -- “Prewar Studies ”，“Translation Activities in the Post-war Period“ “Studies in General Surveys and Histories of Japanese Literature“，“Specialized Works on Takuboku in the 1980s“ and “Some New Approaches to the Study of Takuboku“ -- the paper ends with a conclusion entitled “Future Perspectives about Studies on Takuboku in the English-speaking World“ in which some observations on possible trends in the study of Takuboku in the years to come are presented. | |||||
