| 内容記述 | The manuscript "Oroshiakoku Suimudan," whose composition is hypothetically dated in 1794, is a record of castaways from Ise who were cast ashore in Russia during the period of Japanese isolation. After a decade of wandering around Russia, they were returned by the Russian embassy to Japan. A photographic reproduction of the Japanese text of the manuscript was published in Russia in 1961 with translation, notes and commentary by V.M. Konstantinov. However, in Japan its existence has been forgotten. It has not been listed in either of the major bibliographical collections, Kokusho Sômokuroku or Kotenseki Sôgô Mokuroku. In Russia as well, it has become a forgotten book while translation of Inoue Yasushi's "Oroshiyakoku Suimutan," whose title seems to be inspired by it, is famous and has been filmed. Contained in this manuscript is exceedingly interesting information illustrating the drama of contact with a foreign culture during the period of Japanese isolation, This manuscript, as can be ascertained from its title, preface and style, was not written at the behest of the bakufu or any feudal lord. For that reason the anonymous author was able to deal freely with his material. In this paper I would first like to clarify how this manuscript made its way to Russia and was subsequently published in reproduction and, second to describe the kind of experience it records. |
