| 内容記述 | It is generally accepted that Chinese culture and philosophy have made a big impact on the ruling class society in the Heian period of Japan. The Japanese government officials who thought along Chinese traditional ways went into seclusion in Heian Japan. But the bureaucratic nobility of the Heian period, such as the Yasutane, assimilated these ideas into Japanese culture and made them a reality in practice. It was not a carbon copy of the original, although the Japanese adopted the Chinese tradition of living in seclusion there were many differences below the surface. In fact it has become an altogether concept. This paper examines Yasutane's "Chitei-ki", an elaborate reworking of Hakkyoi's "Chijou-hen". In particular, I shall look at how the two authors' interpretations of Insei (the secluded life). Finally, in addition to summarizing the personal careers of Yasutane and Hakkyoi, I would like to examine the cultural environments they inhabited, and thereby hope to discover the causes of their differing attitudes to Insei. |
