内容記述 | The influence exerted by Tsurezure gusa on Saikaku has not been stressed as much as has been that of the Tale of Genji. The present study examines the close relationship between Saikaku’s novel and Tsurezure gusa, trying to understand it within the framework of the reception of Tsurezure gusa during the 17th century. Kenko’s image is associated in Saikaku’s mind with realities like “letters”, “inkstones”, “brushes”, that is with the act of writing, and it seems that it has strongly influenced Saikaku’s understanding of what a novel is. Kenko’s world-view as it is expressed in the Tsurezure gusa helped shaping Saikaku’s novel and was instrumental in leading Saikaku away from the didacticism of kanazoshi towards the invention of the new literary world of ukiyo zoshi. | |||||
