| 内容記述 | Up till this day no complete Swedish direct translation of The Tale of Genji has been issued. However, two Swedish translations of the first part of Arthur Waley's English translation have been published (Chapers “Kiritsubo” through “Aoi”), one by Annastina Aikman in 1928 and another by Kristina Hasselgren in 1986. Taking these two publications as point of departure, in this paper I will make an evaluation of the Swedish reception of The Tale of Genji in Sweden so far, focusing on comparative aspects of the Swedish translation of The Tale of Genji from two main perspectives: 1) The way The Tale of Genji has been received in Sweden in general and in 1928 and 1986 in particular. 2) A stylistic comparison between on the one hand, the Waley-translation and the two Swedish translations, and on the other hand, between the Genji monogatari source text and the two Swedish target texts. As three of the nine chapters, namely the socalled “Three Hahakigi Chapters” (“Hahakigi,” “Utsusemi,” “Yûgao”) are united in a common story line, focus will be put on them. |
