内容記述 | In order to understand the editorial objectives behind meisho zue, it is necessary to examine the term gayû, mentioned frequently in the prefaces. Gayû literally means going to a distant place without moving at all. Meisho zue were edited in such a way that readers could use them as topographical guidebooks, but they were also made for amusing reading. This presentation takes up several examples from meisho zue in order to ask how perspective was used by the editors to facilitate an experience of gayû, and, moreover, how such perspective was established in the text. To answer these questions, the presentation analyzes image-text combinations in an effort to ask how the themes of this conference come into play within the pages of meisho zue and in particular how they relate to the notion of gayû. |
