| 内容記述 | Geschichte der japanischen Litteratur by Karl Florenz (1865-1939), who was professor of German literature at the University of Tokyo, was published in Leipzig in 1906 (the 39th year of Meiji), It was one of the first books of the Meiji Era to describe the history of Japanese literature at the time when the study of this subject had just begun. The purpose of this report is to compare it with other works written during the same period (e.g.books by S.Mikami and K.Takatsu, W.G.Aston, and Y.Haga) using a comparison table (table A) and, also, to assess it's worth and influence on later Japanese studies. In his study, Florenz referred to the greatest number of works of literature and authors, etc. compared to his contemporaries and, also, was the first to use the philological and crytical methods with respect to Japanese literature. These methods have exerted a great influence on later Japanese studies. In view of this influence, it is suprising that Florenz's achievements have not been acknowlegded in these later Japanese works. This report also tries to determine why this shuld be. |
