| 内容記述 | 本稿は、未紹介の写本『はゝその落葉』（国文学研究資料館蔵）を翻刻し、その解題を附したものである。本資料は、江戸後期幕府文教の中枢にあった儒者林述斎の母敬信院（一七二八〜一八○一）の日常の言動を、述斎の妹服子が和文で綴ったもので、江戸中期に幕閣を務めた大名の正妻（敬信院は美濃岩村藩主松平乗薀の正室）の生活記録として、また、大名の言行録などにまま見られる漢文や候文でなく、文飾をほとんどほどこさない雅文体で書かれたということでも、珍しいものに属するであろう。本文削正を依頼された国学者加藤千蔭に宛てた述斎の書簡四通も、本書の成立事情をうかがわせる資料として、併せて紹介する。 This is the first time “Hahaso-no-Ochiba” (a manuscript in the archives of the National Institute of Japanese Literature) has been transcribed and published. This text records episodes from the life of Keishin-in (1728-1891) the mother of Confucian scholar Hayashi Jussai, who played a major role in establishing the shogunate's cultural and educational policies during the latter half of the Edo period. Written by Jussai's younger sister, “Hahaso no Ochiba” provides a rare glimpse into the everyday life and speech of the wife of a daimyo who held an important position within the shogunate, Matsudaira Norimori of the Mino lwamura han. Furthermore, unlike documents written in formal and masculine language chronicling the activities and speech of the daimyo, “Hahaso no Ochiba” is significant in that it is written in a characteristically female style. The four missives from Hayashi Jussai to the classicist Kato Chikage asking the latter to edit this work suggest some of the processes of how “Hahaso no Ochiba” was formed and so are also appended to the text. |
